Welcome to invest.us, a guide to investing in America. I created this site for various reasons, but mostly it's to be a source of investing information and resources, presented in a way that was easy to read, easy to understand, and not in an overly serious, dry or pretentious manner that so many corporate owned investing websites seem to do. Of course investing your money is serious business, but shouldn't it at least be easy, and at least marginally interesting for the average non-financial person to learn about? I think so! Anyway to tell you something about myself, my name is John, and I live in sunny southern California, USA. I am currently a technology professional, and I also have an accounting and finance background from my earlier days in the banking and mortgage industries. Most recently I worked at IBM where I consulted with large companies on system implementations. I've also worked for various other companies from high tech startups to larger corporations over the years. I started investing around 1995 (which was through my employer 401k), and soon after branched out into other investments. I have almost 9 years of experience as an investor of individual stocks, as well as experience in real estate, and more recently in the internet domain name market. I did make some mistakes when I first started investing, because quite honestly I really didn't have any idea what I was doing. In fact at one point I had lost almost all the money I had been saving for a down payment on a house! But not only did I eventually manage to turn this around and recover my losses, I even went on to triple that money (you can read my entire my story in the Investing disasters section). I guess as they say - if experience is the best teacher then I got the best education possible! One thing I can say for sure is I love investing and I love helping people make money. And that's really the bottom line. Anyway thanks again for visiting and I hope you find the information on this site helpful and of value.
